Reverse of the Curse: The Signet Ring Returns
HAGGAI 2:10–23
The Gift We Are Commanded to Receive
What is faith? Is it blind belief, divine gift, or something else?
While developing my Statement of Faith, I found myself not merely defining the doctrine of faith, but also considering how I derived that doctrinal definition, as well as the implications of my understanding of faith for my broader theology, and more importantly, my relationship with God.
In this episode of The Wisdom Crucible, I examine several beliefs regarding the nature of faith in the light of Scripture in an attempt to burn away the chaff and find the pure gold within.
This episode started with a question: a simple and yet monumentally important question from my pastor regarding the nature of faith. He asked me if I believed that faith was gift, and if so, how we receive it.
I was confident that faith is indeed a gift… in some abstract sense that I wasn’t quite sure at first how to define carefully enough. I was also confident that I could figure it out and present the philosophy of Scripture in a quick 20 min study on the nature of faith… which obviously is not where the Lord took me on this journey of study.
However, I’m going to say that despite failing to keep it simple and concise enough for a general audience I believe that I failed upward in a sense, because the unexpected breadth and depth of work that I have done in the last several months studying the nature and discussion of faith has produced priceless fruit in my spirit.
I hope the results of my labor will be of help to others, but even if not, it’s brought me closer to the God of my faith, and that’s enough for me.

Scripture’s repeated entreaty is to receive the gift of Faith. However you think that works, be sure to follow the biblical instructions: believe the Gospel, repent from sin, trust in God.
